Courant Thermal

In development

What it runs on
Conjugate and radiative cases
What it decides
Wall temperature and heat flux
Cost of being wrong
A finding in a certification file

What it checksCriterion

  1. 01
    Coupling convergence

The fluid side settling while the solid side has not, reported as converged.

    both regions, same floor
  2. 02
    Energy balance at the wall

Heat leaving one region has to arrive in the other.

    flux closure within 1%
  3. 03
    Radiative and convective mix

Boundary conditions that quietly double-count or drop a path.

    view factors sum to 1

These are criteria, not results. Nothing here has been measured — the product is not built.

What comes back

  • The cause, and the line of solver output it came from
  • The change, as a diff you can reverse
  • Physics checks, measured against their limits
  • A record somebody else can open on a link

Targets

  • chtMultiRegionFoam
  • Radiation models
  • Solid-side conduction

Named as intent. No adapter for any of these exists today.

Standing

Buoyant and conjugate cases on OpenFOAM's own solvers are already covered by Fluids. Thermal is the surface that adds multi-region coupling, radiation and the solid side as first-class objects rather than as another flow case.
